Skinny 2014-2018

Skinny Mobile launched a new look and feel in 2014, introducing the ‘Ned’ character and a new TVC by Yukfoo, and in 2016 launched Skinny Broadband, where I helped design its’ mascot, ‘Felix’.

I was often tasked with designing and illustrating Ned for MMR print collateral in Skinny’s in-store display stands. It also extended to out-of-home campaigns, such as Free Data Weekends over Christmas/Summer holidays.

‘Ned’ was but one character; other characters of the same style were called ‘Neds’. When we received a brief, I would sketch a concept on paper and send through the designs, as well as a rough PDF of the layout with headline options for the client to approve. On approval I would then create vector artwork in Illustrator.

Initial sketches of 'Ned' characters for an unlimited calling campaign. Additional versions of the characters were also created to update stand collateral (Guide to Skinny A5 flyer, mobile phone DL flyer etc.) to match the campaign.

Final poster and character design.

For broadband, it was good experience working with the client to come up with a character to represent their broadband offering.
